HiTHIUM has announced its entry into the Canadian market, according to a company statement dated Oct. 21, 2026, from Toronto. The manufacturer, which focuses exclusively on stationary energy storage technologies, said it ranks in the top two globally for energy storage components and has surpassed 200 GWh in cumulative delivered capacity.

HiTHIUM President of Global Business Mizhi Zhang said the company is committed to delivering Canadian customers solutions ranging from 8-hour long duration energy storage to extreme-weather-ready sodium-ion BESS, and to being present locally. Toronto serves as the main hub for Canadian operations, with subsidiary offices in British Columbia and Alberta and operating sites in Quebec, Yellowknife and Fort Smith, according to Zhang.

HiTHIUM said it has introduced 4-hour and 8-hour BESS solutions for utility-scale energy storage. It cited expectations that installed Canadian storage will double between 2025 and 2027 and that the country's total wind, solar and energy storage capacity is on track to reach 50 GW by 2035. The company also revealed a new 4 MWh sodium-ion storage solution designed for an extra-long service life, supporting storage durations from 2 to 8 hours and suited to extremely cold climates such as Northern Canada. Zhang said advancing both lithium-ion and sodium-ion storage is intended to offer customers flexibility, describing the technologies as highly complementary.

Jordan Hebbert, HiTHIUM Senior Manager of Canada, said partners rely on the company's readiness for local certification and long-term bankability from permitting through project commissioning, and on the durability of its technology in extreme weather. He said long-term operational data from North American and European projects has recently shown systems outperforming the company's guarantees.

The 4-hour BESS solution consists of HiTHIUM's "∞Power" 6.25 MWh container, built on its own 1175 Ah cell; most Canadian projects are currently designed around the 4-hour unit, the company said. HiTHIUM said it also developed what it describes as the first ever native 8-hour lithium-ion solution, a 6.9 MWh BESS built with its own 1300 Ah cells, fewer components overall and a 25-year lifespan, designed to address curtailments and fill gaps for zero-downtime industrial segments such as AI data centers.

HiTHIUM said it worked with UL Solutions at the start of 2026 on an independently conducted extreme fire test of the 6.25 MWh block's intrinsic safety systems. A container was subjected to 24 hours of extreme combustion conditions with its doors opened for maximum thermal spread, while neighboring containers were placed 15 cm away and only passive safety systems were enabled. The company said results validated its multi-layer safety architecture: the tested container remained structurally intact, there was no thermal propagation across containers, and cell temperatures in adjacent containers stayed below safety thresholds.
